How much does junk removal cost in East Providence?

East Providence only takes one bulky item a week. Do you have a limit?

No limit. The city collects one bulky item per household per week, on Fridays only, and you have to book it by noon on Thursday. We take whatever fits in the truck, in one visit, usually the same day.

Can you take my mattress? The city charges $25.

Yes, any day. East Providence charges $25 per piece, collects only on scheduled Saturdays, and skips January and February entirely. We pick mattresses up right from the bedroom, year round, no check to mail.

Do you take renovation debris in East Providence?

Yes. Construction debris is not part of the city curbside program — toilets, cabinets, doors, drywall, decking, fencing, siding or shingles. That is exactly the kind of load we handle.

Can you take my old fridge or washer?

Yes, any day. East Providence only collects appliances on the second Tuesday of each month, and you have to buy a $25 recycling sticker at Public Works, 60 Commercial Way, before 10 a.m. We carry it up out of the basement and haul it whenever you are ready.

Do I need to move my junk outside?

No — we remove items from inside your home, basement, attic or garage. You point at what goes and we handle the lifting.

Where does my stuff actually go?

Usable furniture and appliances go to donation partners, metal and electronics get recycled, and only what is genuinely unusable goes to the RIRRC Central Landfill in Johnston, which takes in more than 90% of Rhode Island’s trash. East Providence’s Public Works yard on Commercial Way takes e-waste, flattened cardboard and bulky rigid plastic from residents, and the city asks people to try donating usable furniture first.

What don't you take?

Hazardous materials — paint, gasoline, pesticides and pool chemicals. Rhode Island Resource Recovery runs free Eco-Depot appointments for those at (401) 942-1430, and East Providence normally hosts one at the end of July. Empty propane tanks and e-waste you can drop off yourself at the DPW yard, 60 Commercial Way, weekdays 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

East Providence Dump & Bulky Item Disposal Guide

Want to do it yourself? Here’s how East Providence residents can get rid of junk — and why most people call us instead.

Curbside Bulky Pickup

Call the DPW Rubbish & Recycling office at (401) 435-7701 to book. Collection is Fridays, one bulky item per household per week, and the deadline is noon on Thursday. Put it out before 3 p.m. Thursday and you risk a $50-per-day fine.

Mattresses & Box Springs

Curbside collection costs $25 per piece, by appointment, on scheduled Saturdays only — twice a month March through November, once in December, and not at all in January or February. Payment is by check dropped at City Hall, 145 Taunton Avenue, or at the DPW office.

The Dump: Central Landfill

Rhode Island’s Central Landfill is at 65 Shun Pike, Johnston, RI — call (401) 942-1430 for hours and requirements. You’ll need a truck, and fees apply for many items, like $8 per tire. Closer to home, the DPW yard at 60 Commercial Way takes e-waste, propane tanks and bulky rigid plastic, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Appliances: One Day a Month

Washers, dryers, fridges, freezers, stoves, hot water tanks, air conditioners and gas grills are collected only on the second Tuesday of each month — and you have to buy a $25 recycling sticker at Public Works, 60 Commercial Way, by 10 a.m. Yard waste runs April 1 through December 15, in paper bags or labeled barrels.

The catch: one item a week, a Thursday noon deadline, $25 per mattress on select Saturdays, a $25 sticker for appliances one Tuesday a month, and a $50 fine if it goes out early. If you’d rather skip all of that, we’ll pick it up today — any day, any amount, straight from inside your home.
