Woonsocket Junk Removal FAQ

It depends on volume — most single items run affordable flat rates, and full loads are priced by truck space. Text us a photo for a free, exact estimate. No estimate fee, no deposit.

No limit. The city allows a single bulky item per month — one couch, or one chair, or one rug. A living room set alone would take you three months. We take whatever fits in the truck, in one visit, usually the same day.

Not with us. Woonsocket makes you drive to the DPW inside City Hall at 169 Main Street on a weekday between 8:30 and 4:00, show ID and proof of residency, collect a green sticker, then call Waste Management to book a date — and the item can only go out the night before. We just come and take it.

Yes, right out of the bedroom. The city’s free option means driving it to the Material Recycling Facility on River Street, where an attendant inspects it — it has to be dry, bug free and fully intact, and it must arrive uncovered so they can see it. Only if it passes do you wrap and seal it yourself with plastic you brought. Futons and crib mattresses are refused outright, no matter what condition they are in. We take all of it.

Only up to three units. A one, two or three family on the curbside route gets one sticker per month — a four-unit building gets nothing at all. And if a property manager runs the building, Public Works will not issue a sticker until a notarized letter signed by both the owner and the manager is on file, and that letter is void the moment the property sells or the manager changes. Turnovers, evictions and clear-outs are a large part of what we do here.

Yes. Construction and demolition debris is not part of the city’s bulky item program at all, which leaves residents hauling it to Johnston or hiring someone. That is exactly the kind of load we handle.

No — we remove items from inside your home, basement, attic or garage. You point at what goes and we handle the lifting.

Usable furniture and appliances go to donation partners, metal and electronics get recycled, and only what is genuinely unusable goes to the RIRRC Central Landfill in Johnston, which takes in more than 90% of Rhode Island’s trash. Woonsocket’s Material Recycling Facility on River Street also runs a Swap Shed, where small appliances, tools, dishes and odds and ends are left for someone else to take home.

Through the city it is a different sticker from furniture — appliances are “white goods” and run on an orange sticker, one item per week, same trip to City Hall. You can also drive it to the Recycle Facility at 943 River Street yourself, free, if you can lift it into a vehicle. Or we carry it out of the basement for you, which is usually the real problem.

Woonsocket Dump & Bulky Item Disposal Guide

Want to do it yourself? Here’s how Woonsocket residents can get rid of junk through the city — and where it gets complicated.

One Item a Month, and a Trip to City Hall

Curbside bulky pickup is free but capped at one item per month, and only for 1, 2 and 3 unit dwellings. You must collect a green sticker in person at the DPW inside City Hall, 169 Main Street, weekdays 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with ID and proof of residency or ownership. Then call Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 to book a date, and the item only goes out the night before. Appliances run on a separate orange sticker, one per week.

Mattress Disposal

Free at the Material Recycling Facility with proof of Woonsocket residency — but it has to be dry, bug free and fully intact, it must arrive uncovered, and an attendant inspects it before it is accepted. Only if it passes do you wrap and seal it yourself, on the spot, with plastic you brought. Three per visit. Fail inspection and you pay to dump it elsewhere. Futon and crib mattresses are refused outright, along with sofa bed mattresses and water beds. Curbside pickup carries a fee.

The Recycling Facility: Residents Only

943 River Street, Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:15 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 11:45 AM. Proof of Woonsocket residency required. Appliances and e-waste are free to drop off here, but you have to load them and drive them yourself.

Four Units or More? You Get Nothing

The sticker program only covers 1, 2 and 3 unit dwellings on the city’s curbside route. A four-unit building gets nothing — no bulky pickup at all. And if a property manager handles the building, the city will not hand over a sticker until a notarized permission letter signed by both the owner and the manager is on file at Public Works. That letter dies the moment the property changes hands or the manager changes. Construction and demolition debris is not part of the program either.

The catch: one item a month, only if you are in a one-to-three family, plus a weekday trip to City Hall for a sticker, a separate call to schedule, and a one-night window at the curb. A single living room takes three months.
